The Charles Babbage Institute is located in 211 Elmer L. Andersen Library on the West Bank Campus of the University of Minnesota. The University campus is approximately one mile from downtown Minneapolis and eight miles from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. There are nearby stops for city buses, airport hotel shuttles, and light rail. There is no parking immediately adjacent to the library, but there are surface lots and parking ramps within 1-3 blocks.
Hours
CBI is open for researchers from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Appointments are recommended. Contact the CBI staff for an appointment.
*NEW* Starting September 2008, Andersen Library will be open from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays. Limited service will be available. Advance appointments are strongly encouraged.

Driving Directions to the West Bank campus of the University of Minnesota.
Going east on I-394: Follow I-94 east to I-35W north to the U of M west bank exit, 17C. Take a right onto Washington Avenue and curve right onto Cedar. Turn left on 3rd Street S. Turn left on 19th Avenue S. and continue over the bridge. Turn right at the stoplight at 2nd Street S. in front of Walter Mondale Hall. Follow 2nd Street S around to the parking lots on your right. Andersen Library is the leftmost red brick building.
Going east on I-94: Follow I-94 east to I-35W north to the U of M west bank exit, 17C. Take a right onto Washington Avenue and curve right onto Cedar. Turn left on 3rd Street S. Turn left on 19th Avenue S. and continue over the bridge. Turn right at the stoplight at 2nd Street S. in front of Walter Mondale Hall. Follow 2nd Street S around to the parking lots on your right. Public Transportation Options to the University of Minnesota
The University of Minnesota is accessible by public transportation. There are nearby stops for city buses, airport hotel shuttles, and light rail.
- To/From Airport: Airport shuttle services most hotels for about $11.00 one way ($18-$20 round trip). The Holiday Inn Metrodome, only 2 blocks away, is often a convenient dropoff/pickup point for people, as is the Mondale Law Building. Taxi fare is about $20.00. See below for information about light-rail service to and from the airport.
- Metro Bus Transportation: The University is accessible via many Metro Transit buses from both downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, including the 3, 16 and 50. Please see the Metro Transit website for information on routes and fares.
- Light Rail: Light-rail service is available between Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and downtown Minneapolis. Connections to and from the University campus can be made by means of a transfer to a Metro Transit bus (Routes 3, 16, or 50) at the Downtown East/Metrodome Station. Further information regarding the Hiawatha Light-Rail service, including how to ride and fares, is available on the Metro Transit website.

Parking
The area is bordered by Washington Ave., 19th Ave. S., 2nd St. S. and West River Parkway. Enter via the intersection at 19th Ave. S. and 2nd St. S. Public parking is available in lot C86. A municipal parking ramp is next to the Holiday Inn a block away. Metered parking is available on the West River Parkway.(Please note that parking rates change annually. Please check with University of Minnesota Parking Services for current rates.)
There are two University parking ramps on Riverside Ave. two blocks away. Some free parking may be available on neighborhood streets.
