Historical Note
The Minnesota Joint Computer Conference (MJCC) was a series of professional data processing seminars held annually from 1979-1994. It was founded in October 1978 by Roger Rydberg, then president of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Twin Cities Chapter, and Kim Helseth, then president of Data Processing Management Association (DPMA) Twin Cities Chapter.
MJCC’s annual meetings were held in conjunction with DPMA’s Northwest Computer Show, and MJCC was initially sponsored by the DPMA Twin Cities Chapter. The local ACM chapter became a supporting member in 1979, as did the local chapter of ASM in 1981.
MJCC’s objectives, as stated in a 1987 agreement between the three partner organizations, were to provide personal and professional development for the members of the participating organizations and the data processing community; to provide professional development for participating organization volunteers in organizing the annual conferences; and to provide a sources of revenue to further the education of members of the participating organizations.
MJCC was headed by an executive committee composed of three co-chairs, one from each of the sponsoring organizations. Through most of its existence, MJCC was the premier data processing education event in the Twin Cities.
Scope and Content Note
Collection documents the activities of the MJCC from 1979 and consists of conference programs and brochures; conference planning and evaluation materials; meeting minutes of the executive board and committees; administrative records; and some photographs. "Newsletters and magazines" refers primarily to materials published in conjunction with or distributed at the conferences. Also included is a folder of material about the Twin Cities DPMA 40th anniversary. The materials were collected by Axel Kornfuehrer, who served as MJCC archivist from 1989.
