Scope and Content Note

This series documents the activities of Control Data Corporation (CDC) executives and engineers who later became executives within the company and/or its subsidiaries. Records include an alphabetical set of brief executive biographies and a chronological set of executive speeches, but the majority of the materials consist of executive files.

Executive files include biographical information and speeches; researchers looking for this type of material should consult all three sets of records in this series. The executive files also include dayfiles, memos, subject files, reports, and writings.

Albert Eisele's executive files consist almost entirely of materials regarding William Norris and Robert Price. For additional information on William Norris' career as CDC President and CEO (1957-1986), researchers should consult the William Norris Executive Papers series, as well as William Norris' personal papers (CBI 164).

Researchers should consult the following series for additional information on the activities of Control Data Corporation's executives:

Sherman R. Abrahamson, 1976-1982

Roger A. Baldelli, 1977

R.W. Bender, 1960-1967

Norbert Berg, 1963-1989

Norbert Berg’s dayfiles contain information about various subjects, including the North Side and Selby plants and Personnel (Berg was head of Administration/Personnel and eventually became a VP). Personal information (salaries, exact bonus amounts and social security numbers) for specific individuals has been separated from the collection and discarded.

As Berg was a close advisor to Norris and responsible for other various functions at CDC, there are several pieces of correspondence written to Norris or other CDC executives that were subsequently given to Berg and kept in his collection.

Bjarne R. Eng, 1962-1969

Fremont Fletcher, 1956-1987

Fletcher served as CDC President in its first three weeks of existence, and later as a director and Secretary. His records reflect his position as Secretary of the Corporation and his profession (lawyer) and contain legal information such as correspondence and legal documents regarding legal disputes, Cedar Engineering, and SEC registrations.

E.J. Manning (Ennis James) was owner/president of Cedar Engineering at the time of its acquisition from CDC and continued as president of this division until he was let go sometime in circa 1959. He later sued CDC, and this suit is reflected in Fletcher’s records. Researchers should also see William Norris' Dayfiles for correspondence revealing details of this situation.

D.M. Manning (Dorothy M. Manning) is also named in legal documents pertaining to Cedar Engineering and was the wife of E.J. Manning
