NIST Computer Security Division


The Computer Security Division is a component of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Information Technology Laboratory (ITL).(1) The Computer Security Division fulfills several roles, including raising awareness of risks, vulnerabilities, and protection requirements for new and emerging forms of information technology.(2) The CSD also conducts research into IT vulnerabilities, while developing cost-effective means of protection from those vulnerabilities for federal and state agencies. As part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the CSD is also tasked with developing security standards, tests, and other metrics for computer systems and services.(3)
