Notice: On June 30, 2016, UMWiki service will be decommissioned. If you have information in UMWIki that needs to be preserved, you should make plans to move it before that date. Google Sites is anticipated to be the most popular and appropriate alternative for users because it offers a more modern and user-friendly interface and unlimited capacity. To learn more about the features of Google Sites and other alternatives, and to identify which one best fits your needs, see the University’s Website Solution Selection Guide. 42 Suggestions for Improving Security in Data Processing Operations (Courtney/IBM)

IBM. "42 Suggestions for Improving Security in Data Processing Operations," G520-2797. New York: IBM, White Plains, 1972.

These forty-two suggestions were based on observations and comments by experienced operators of data processing installations. They cover basic concepts in system security, such as controlling access to the system area, and defining responsibilities for the security of data, systems, and programs. They advise organizations to take prompt corrective action in the event data security is jeopardized or lost. They also recommend indoctrinating personnel with a sense of the importance of security, and their responsibilities in maintaining it. Other suggestions include steps to protect against fire, power failures, and other common issues with securing data and computing systems.
